In October 1714 the young Frankfurt patrician Johann Friedrich Armand von Uffenbach (1687–1769), later mayor of Frankfurt, set out from Colmar on the second part of his Grand Tour and kept a diary of everything he saw: libraries, collections, churches, scholars, inns, roads and ruins. Volume III: Florence and its Galleria, Pisa, Lucca and Genoa, back across the Mont Cenis to Geneva, Lyon and down the Loire, and Paris with Versailles and Marly – scholars, academies, libraries, the opera, the fair and the young Louis XV (July 1715 – February 1716). Edited from the typescript of the Göttingen manuscripts in modern German spelling by Bernhard Trebuch, with notes, Wikipedia links and page-precise links to the books Uffenbach cites. Reading sample: Florence and the Galleria.
