In October 1714 the young Frankfurt patrician Johann Friedrich Armand von Uffenbach (1687–1769), later mayor of Frankfurt, set out from Colmar on the second part of his Grand Tour and kept a diary of everything he saw: libraries, collections, churches, scholars, inns, roads and ruins. Volume II: from Bologna by Loreto to Rome for Holy Week and Easter, on to Naples, Vesuvius, Pozzuoli, Baia and Cumae, back to Rome with its antiquaries, churches, palaces and collections, Tivoli, and on to Siena (March – June 1715). Edited from the typescript of the Göttingen manuscripts in modern German spelling by Bernhard Trebuch, with notes, Wikipedia links and page-precise links to the books Uffenbach cites. Reading sample: from Bologna to Loreto and on towards Rome.
