Epistles to Lucilius
Seneca
Lucius Annaeus Seneca (c. 4 BC – AD 65), Stoic philosopher and adviser to Nero, wrote these letters to his friend Lucilius in the last years of his life: on the use of time, friendship, reading, wealth and poverty, slavery, noise, old age and death. Thomas Morell’s English translation (London, 1786) with his Life of Seneca and notes, revised and annotated by Bernhard Trebuch, with the Latin text after Hense (1898) linked section by section, 1,777 notes and a glossary of 147 terms. Reading sample: the Life of Seneca and the first book of letters (1–12).
