Musikalische Dialogen
Wilhelm Heinse
Wilhelm Heinse (1746–1803), author of Ardinghello and the music novel Hildegard von Hohenthal, left these youthful dialogues on taste in music, published after his death by Ignaz Arnold (Leipzig, 1805): Rousseau and Jommelli on musical genius, Metastasio and a princess on the Graces, and two students with a cantor on church music. Newly transcribed from the Fraktur print, proofread page by page against the scan and annotated by Bernhard Trebuch, with translations of the Italian lines. Reading sample: the preface, Arnold’s foreword and Heinse’s addresses to his readers.
