The Creation oratorio contributed to a substantial increase in Haydn’s fortune. The above-mentioned musical society gave him a present of five hundred ducats; a benefit concert and his own publication of the score [with German and English text] brought him some twelve thousand gulden. The plates of the score are the property of Messrs. Breitkopf and Härtel in Leipzig.
