Silvius Leopold Weiss

born in 1686 into a family of lutenists in Silesian Breslau (Wroclaw), found himself surrounded by some of Europe‘s finest musicians on entering royal service between 1715 and 1717. During his time in Dresden (until his death in 1750) Johann Joachim Quantz, Francesco Maria Veracini, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Antonio Lotti and Johann David Heinichen were among those serving in the Hofkapelle, the last two having been engaged by the crown prince himself in Venice in 1717.
