Alfred Deller (1912 – 1979)
the „godfather of the countertenor“ was one of the main figures in the performance of renaissance and baroque music. Much more than a handful recordings documentate his stupendous artistical and technical energy. Over sixty years ago in May 1954 his was in the Franziskanerkirche in Vienna to record music by Johann Sebastian Bach. Amongst his fellow campaigners were pioneers of the early music scene: Marie Leonhardt & Eduard Melkus (baroque violins), Michel Piguet (baroque oboe), Nikolaus Harnoncourt (baroque cello) and Gustav Leonhardt (organ & conductor)
